What services do you offer?
Our Notary can perform both Notary Public and Commissioner for Oaths services. The type of service you require depends on the document and its intended use. If you are unsure, carefully review your documents for instruction, but generally speaking a sworn document to be used outside of Alberta must be notarized.
Please note that our standard service does not include preparing any documents, or legal advice. Our notary is a qualified lawyer and if you require these services including Powers of Attorney, Wills, Real Estate transactions or general legal advice, please contact us and we can discuss how to approach that.
Are there any documents you will not assist with?
In general, we will not assist with notarization of separation agreements, pre-nuptual agreements, matrimonial property agreements or any other family law related matter. The only exception to this is the completion of travel consent letters for children or the swearing of affidavits. We are also unable to assist with the witnessing of wills, however in Alberta a will does not need to be notarized to be valid. Please contact a laywer for additional information on creating a valid will.
Can you complete personal guarantees for loans, leases etc.?
Due to changes to Alberta law, a notary public is no longer able to complete the necessary certificate required for personal guarantees of third party loans, leases and so on. Fortunately, our Notary is a practicing lawyer and can assist you in that capacity, but the investment of time and therefore fee, is greater. Please make arrangements to provide a copy of your guarantee document in advance if at all possible, and at a minimum be sure to read your document before coming to your appointment. You will be asked if you have done so and the key points of the guarantee reviewed with you. The reason is to ensure your understanding as that is required by Alberta law. For convenience, you may book this through our online booking service or phone however for clarity, this service will be provided by a lawyer in that capacity. Please see below for the current fee charged by our referred lawyer.
How much will it cost?
The cost of service depends on how many times the Notary/Commissioner must sign and seal your documents. Please note that second copies of the same document are counted seperately.
Basic Appointment (including up to 3 documents/signatures): $80 + GST
Additonal Documents/Signatures: $15 + GST each
Personal Guarantees: $100 + GST
What are your hours of operation?
Our service is by appointment only. We are generally available on weekdays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. subject to availabitly on the given day.
